Winch module redesign for manufacture
Updating an older product for current workshop processes and a new loader connection.
The brief
A client needed a replacement winch module based on a product originally built in the 1980s. Usable fabrication drawings were no longer available, and the replacement required an attachment to suit a specific loader.
Design approach & deliverables
I reconstructed the assembly, designed an adaptable transition piece and prepared a new assembly drawing, bill of materials and detailed fabrication drawings. The design was updated around the workshop’s current cutting, folding and fabrication processes.
The result
The workshop used the drawings to laser-cut, fold, 5-axis cut and fabricate the components. I worked directly with the team to answer queries and resolve issues during manufacture.
Selected work from Ted Watson’s professional portfolio.
